About me
I am a multi‑creative dance artist, scholar, and advocate rooted in Southern California. My journey begins in the living rooms of childhood, where I orchestrated full‑scale ballets for my siblings, dreaming big and learning early that dance would become both my greatest creative challenge and lifelong devotion.
I hold a B.F.A. in Dance, with honors, from UC Santa Barbara, where I was recognized with departmental honors, choreography awards, and international study opportunities such as a Patricia Sparrow scholarship to train with Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv. I earned my M.F.A. in Dance through a collaborative program with Hollins University, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, and The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (formerly The Forsythe Company). I later earned an M.A. in Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies in 2023 and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field at UCSB.
As founder and Artistic Director of Selah Dance Collective (established in 2014), I guide the creation and performance of original, evening‑length works that blend different styles and modalities – aiming to make dance accessible, relatable, and educational for diverse audiences. Our works have toured and engaged communities throughout the U.S. and across Europe.
My creative expression transcends choreography. Often serving as costume, set, media designer, sound engineer, photographer, and marketing director, I cultivate each dimension of the work – from design to presentation – with the same intentionality and vision. Parallel to my artistic endeavors, I’ve nurtured a design portfolio – shaping branding, web, and print media for small businesses and nonprofits – and leveraged those skills to evolve Selah from a fledgling passion project into a nonprofit, rooted in authentic community engagement.
My scholarly research intersects dance historiography and theory – particularly examining embodiment and empathy, the politics of the female body, representations of death, and early modern dance – culminating in works like my contemporary adaptation of Le Sacre du Printemps in 2022 and original evening-length performances building off my scholarly research such as Sound and Smoke (2023) and Palermo! (2025).
I mentor emerging artists, teach across studios and universities, and serve on boards of local nonprofits – advocating for access to arts education and supporting a vibrant dance ecology in Santa Barbara and beyond.
In essence, my creative practice is an ecosystem: choreography, scholarly inquiry, education, design, curation, and community converge to form works that are intellectually rigorous, emotionally resonant, and broadly inclusive. I seek not only to embody ideas through dance but to invite reflection, engagement, and transformation – across disciplines, generations, and cultural spaces.
